Changing the Game in Youth Sports: TEDx Talks Presentation
From: http://changingthegameproject.com/changing-the-game-in-youth-sports/
Some takeaways:
- The single greatest effect on performance is an athlete’s state of mind
- Youth sports used to be about children competing against other children; now it is often adults competing against other adults through their children
- Children play sports because it is fun; winning comes in way down the list
- Children quit sports when they don’t get to play, and when winning becomes more important than enjoyment
- 90% of children would rather play on a losing team than sit the bench on a winning team
- Competition is important, but being competitive comes from putting the needs and priorities of our children first
- We can all start changing youth sports for the better by learning five simple words (watch to learn what they are)

4 Phases of Play
Here is a good article on describing the phases of play. For those of you who are not familiar with this concept, you could think of it as a "mindset" of a youth player in soccer. Although, most of us mistakenly think of the "phases of play" in terms of position such as "Defender" or "Scorer". We tend to think of that since a lot of us watch or have participated in different sports.
Here, we have to break that "thinking" in terms of every player.
When you have the ball, "everyone is attacking". When you don't have the ball "everyone is defending". However, depending as to where you are at on the field, do you as a player (or coach) able to recognize the "Principles of Play". (see AYSO U12 Coach Manual).

Attacking Principles - Tika Taka Style
What is Tiki Taka ?
Source wikipedia: Tiki Taka is a style of play in football characterised by short passing and movement, working the ball through various channels, and maintaining possession.
In short... this is a precise level of play using the "Attacking Principles of Play" with posession, quick passing ( 1 - 2 touches ) with all players involved providing lanes for passing.
